On November 9, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., at IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law, the Wrongful Conviction Clinic and the Indiana Abolition Coalition will co- sponsor speakers Randy Steidl and Michael Callahan from Witness to Innocence. Before his 2004 exoneration and release, Randy Steidl spent 17 years behind bars, including a dozen on death row, for the murders of a young couple in 1986. Michale Callahan, at the time a member of the Illinois State Police, was assigned to review the fourteen year old murder in April 2000. His book, Too Politically Sensitive, is a true story of the government hypocrisy and misconduct that followed his attempt to unravel the facts which put two innocent men in prison. Witness to Innocence is the nations only organization composed of, by and for exonerated death row survivors and their loved ones, bringing a human face to the death penalty issue. This presentation will occur in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Indiana Abolition Coalition, a group which seeks to build consensus to end the death penalty in Indiana through education, collaboration and activism. Refreshments will be served in the atrium beginning at 5:30 p.m., to be followed by a meeting at 6:00 p.m. and the speakers in the Wynne Courtroom at 7:00 p.m.
