We are fortunate to have one of EPA’s top Clean Air officials joining us on Friday to meet and talk with students about her work in helping to advance the Obama Administration’s clean air policy over the past few years.  Janet McCabe is Principal Deputy to the Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation at EPA.  As the number two clean air official in the country, McCabe has been at the center of major administration initiatives including the Mercury Rule, and efforts to reform Greenhouse Gas policies to address climate change.  Before being appointed, McCabe was Director of Indianapolis-based Improving Kid’s Environment, Inc.  She will talk with students about her work and also about what it’s like to work for the Obama Administration in Washington, DC.

“Janet is an experienced leader with unique insights into some of the most challenging and important issues that face our country today,” noted Professor Eric Dannenmaier, Director of IU McKinney Law’s Environmental and Natural Resources Program.  “Her duties in Washington have ranged from helping to curb mercury pollution to mitigating the long-term effects of carbon emissions in a political environment that sometimes seems as toxic as the substances her office is charged with regulating.  It is a privilege for our students to have an opportunity to sit down with her and talk one-on-one about her work and the priorities of our national clean air program.”

McCabe will meet with students Friday Feb 15 in Room 391 from 12:40 until 2:10pm.
