The Office of Academic Affairs invites you to attend the 2013 Plater Institute which will be held in Campus Center 450 on Monday, April 22, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
This year's event is entitled "Integrative Learning: Translating Theory into Practice" and features keynote speaker Dr. Mary Taylor Huber, director of the Carnegie Foundation's role in the U.S. Professors of the Year program and advisor to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Dr. Huber has written extensively on cultures of teaching in higher education, integrative learning, and faculty roles and rewards.
Recent books which Dr. Huber has authored include: Balancing Acts: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Academic Careers (2004); The Advancement of Learning: Building the Teaching Commons (2005); and The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Reconsidered: Institutional Integration and Impact (2011).
About the Plater Institute: The William M. Plater Institute on the Future of Learning was established in 2006 to recognize the leadership of Bill Plater who served as IUPUI's Executive Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculties from 1987 to 2006. This Institute provides an opportunity for the campus community and its constituents throughout the greater Indianapolis metro area to build upon his commitment to excellence in teaching and learning by collectively exploring significant issues in higher education that will influence the future of learning.
The goals of the 2013 Plater Institute are:
- Discuss theory of integrative learning and how to apply to practice
- Showcase best integrative learning practices at IUPUI
- Facilitate participant dialogue and provide methods of incorporation into courses/practices/ guidance/activities
