Professor Orentlicher’s Op-Ed on Health Insurance Picked Up by USA Today
IU McKinney Professor David Orentlicher’s recent op-ed on the potential long-term impact of the Affordable Care Act, which was initially published in the Indianapolis Star on November 15, has subsequently been picked up by the nationwide newspaper USA Today for publication.
In the piece, Professor Orentlicher examines the link between having health insurance and being healthy, calling it tenuous. Greater improvements to overall health could be made if some of the trillion dollars that the ACA will spend in the next decade had been dedicated to public health programs, as well as programs that could improve education and reduce poverty, the professor wrote.
Professor Orentlicher is a Samuel R. Rosen Professor of Law and co-director of the William S. and Christine S. Hall Center for Law and Health. He received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
