IU McKinney Faculty Support University Stance on Marriage Equality
Members of the faculty from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, through a faculty resolution, have voiced support for IU and IUPUI’s position against Indiana House Joint Resolution 6 (HJR6).
Professor Shawn Boyne also wrote a letter to the editor that was published in the December 4 issue of the Indiana Lawyer, calling for the Indiana State Bar Association to take a stand on the issue.
Several student groups also supported the university’s stance on the issue. A letter to the editor of the Indianapolis Star was published November 14, signed by the Lambda Law Society, Black Law Student Association, Health Law Society, and Feminist Law Society. The letter by the student groups praises IU President Michael McRobbie’s opposition to HJR6 and thanks him for it.
IU President McRobbie announced October 28 that the university had joined Freedom Indiana, a bipartisan grassroots campaign against HJR6. IUPUI Chancellor Charles Bantz, Vice Chancellor for Diversity Karen Dace, and President of the IUPUI Faculty Council L. Jack Windsor released a statement last month announcing IUPUI’s position in opposition to the proposed amendment.
