Visitors to Study IU McKinney-Shortridge Partnership
Two law professors from Colorado, Catherine Smith and Melissa Hart, will visit the Shortridge Magnet School for Law and Public Policy to meet with administrators, teachers, and students to examine the IPS school and its partnership with IU McKinney. While in Indianapolis March 19 and 20, they will also meet with IU McKinney faculty, administrators, and students working with the partnership and attend a legal studies class at Shortridge taught by Professor Carlton Waterhouse.
Smith and Hart are considering a proposal to develop a law and public policy school in Colorado. Professor Smith serves as the Associate Dean of Institutional Diversity and Inclusiveness at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and oversees the law school's partnership with the Denver Urban Debate League. Professor Hart is the Director of the Byron R. White Center for the Study of American Constitutional Law at the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Law, where she runs the Colorado Law School chapter of the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project, a national program that sends law school students into high schools to teach constitutional law.
The Shortridge-IU McKinney partnership began in August 2012, and was overseen by Professor Carlton Waterhouse during its first year. Professor Lahny Silva is overseeing the program for the law school during the 2013-2014 academic year.
