Professor Orentlicher Publishes Article on Tobacco Warnings in New England Journal of Medicine
Professor David Orentlicher’s “Perspective” article titled “The FDA’s Graphic Tobacco Warnings and the First Amendment,” was published in the New England Journal of Medicine on June 26.
In the article, Professor Orentlicher notes that the ability of companies to market their goods is nearly as strong as the rights of individuals to speak their minds. Tobacco companies were successful in their fight against the graphic warnings the FDA unveiled in June 2011.
Professor Orentlicher is a Samuel R. Rosen Professor of Law and co-director of the William S. and Christine S. Hall Center for Law and Health. He received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
