Professor Magliocca Published in New York Times Opinionator
Professor Gerard Magliocca’s opinion piece titled “The Father of the Fourteenth Amendment” was published online on September 17 on the New York Times Opinionator page as part of the series Disunion, which is about the Civil War.
The piece is about John Bingham, the subject of Professor Magliocca’s newly published book American Founding Son: John Bingham and the Invention of the Fourteenth Amendment. The online column begins with Bingham’s defeat in the 1862 congressional election, and follows him through the crafting of the language of the 14th Amendment.
Professor Magliocca joined the IU McKinney faculty in 2001, and is a Samuel R. Rosen Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Research. In addition to his books, he has written over 20 articles on constitutional law and intellectual property. He teaches torts, constitutional law, intellectual property, legal history, and admiralty.
