Program on Professor Magliocca's Latest Book to Air on BookTV
C-SPAN2’s BookTV will air a show about Professor Gerard Magliocca’s latest book, American Founding Son: John Bingham and the Invention of the Fourteenth Amendment on Sunday, November 10 at 10 p.m.
This work is Professor Magliocca’s third book. A leading antislavery lawyer and congressman from Ohio, Bingham wrote the most important part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which guarantees fundamental rights and equality to all Americans. More than any other figure of his day, Bingham played the key role in shaping the Union’s policy towards the occupied ex-Confederate States, with consequences that still haunt our politics today.
Professor Magliocca joined the IU McKinney faculty in 2001, and is a Samuel R. Rosen Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Research. In addition to his books, he has written over 20 articles on constitutional law and intellectual property. He teaches torts, constitutional law, intellectual property, legal history, and admiralty law.
