Professor Robert Katz quoted in Tax Analysts Article
Professor Robert Katz was quoted in an article titled “Short on Revenue, State and Local Governments Turn to Nonprofits,” on the website: taxanalysts.com.
The article, published January 16, 2014, examines how nonprofits are finding their tax benefits in jeopardy as lawmakers look for ways to preserve revenue.
"Changing state and local property taxes would be a huge and difficult undertaking," Professor Katz is quoted as saying in the story. "It would disrupt arrangements that have been in place for centuries and result in unintended negative consequences that are hard to predict. The more prudent approach is to let localities work out PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) arrangements on an institution-by-institution basis."
In addition to his teaching at IU McKinney, Professor Katz is on the faculty of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, where he serves as professor of philanthropic studies.
