David F. Snively, '79, Named to "Outstanding General Counsel" List
The National Law Journal named David F. Snively, ’79, a magna cum laude graduate of IU McKinney, to its list of “America’s 50 Outstanding General Counsel.” The list was released in March 2014. Snively is the executive vice president, secretary, and general counsel at Monsanto, where he leads the company’s legal and environmental, safety and health organizations and serves as secretary to the board of directors.
Snively will be recognized on June 9 in Washington, D.C., with The Burton Award’s Legends in the Law Award, made in association with the Library of Congress. This award recognizes the finest corporate General Counsel in America based on criteria including leadership, professional expertise, and global and national importance.
Additionally, Monsanto’s legal department was named “Most Innovative” by the Financial Times (tied with Google) in November 2013, and “Best In-House IP Team” and “Milestone IP Case of Year” in March by Managing IP Magazine. He led the company’s unanimous win in Bowman v. Monsanto, the U.S. Supreme Court case relating to patent exhaustion involving self-replicating technologies. Monsanto is the global leader in advanced technology for agriculture, and has international headquarters in St. Louis.
