Civil Practice Clinic Students Gather Items for Re-Entry Facility
Law students and Social Work students in Professor Carrie Hagan’s Civil Practice Clinic class decided to have a little friendly competition. The Civil Practice Clinic is an interdisciplinary course open to Law, and Social Work students every spring. This semester, students decided to collect items for donation to the Indianapolis Re-Entry Educational Facility (IREF), with the Law students and the Social Work students competing to determine who could collect the most donations.
Part of the Indiana Department of Corrections and serving all 92 counties, the IREF accepts a maximum of 420 offenders who are referred to as residents upon acceptance into the program. Residents acquire the skills they need for successful reintegration into the community, with the goal of reducing recidivism. The clinic students decided to collect clothing, books, and other items for the residents, and the law students won the contest, which was held April 2, 2014.
