IU McKinney Alumnus Named Review Board Chair for USA Swimming
Bernard “Buddy” Pylitt, ’75, has been named chair of the National Board of Review (NBOR) for USA Swimming. The NBOR is a volunteer review board that acts as a hearing body to resolve matters, questions and disputes involving USA Swimming, local swimming committees or USA Swimming membership.
Pylitt has more than eight years of experience as a county and federal prosecutor, trial lawyer and administrative law judge for three Indiana agencies, and as a Superior Court judge. In 2005, Pylitt re-entered the practice of law after serving as judge of Hamilton County Superior Court No. 2 in 2004.
He entered law school after receiving his bachelor of arts from IU, but his studies were interrupted by a two-year stint in the United States Army, where he served in the Judge Advocate General Corp at Fort Carson in Colorado. He was honorably discharged in 1973 and awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Pylitt then resumed his legal studies, graduating in 1975.
USA Swimming is the national governing body for the sport of swimming, and is made up of 300,000 members of all ages and abilities. The group is responsible for selecting and training teams for international competition, including the Olympic Games.
