Andrew R. Klein
Dean & Paul E. Beam Professor of Law
Dean Klein writes about issues at the intersection of tort and environmental law, including cases where people have become ill because of exposures to toxic substances. He is especially interested in the legal system's response to the problem of causation in these kinds of situations. In other words, how does a person who suffers from a disease connect the illness to any particular substance? His work in this area explores a number of ideas, ranging from the use of scientific evidence to prove causation, to allowing proportional recovery, to exploring the possibility of recovery for exposures that simply increase the risk of disease.
