Welcome to McKinney!
Congratulations! We are happy to welcome you to the next class of IU McKinney law students. On the following pages, you’ll find all the information you need to get ready for your first day at McKinney. If you have any further questions or need any additional information, please contact us at email@example.com or 317-274-2459.
Seat Deposits, Registration, Orientation and First Assignments:
To reserve your spot, you must pay a $300 seat deposit. You may refer to your admission letter or your online status checker screen for due dates.
If you have decided to relinquish your seat in the incoming class, please let us know as early as possible. You may notify us of your decision here.
Attend special open house
We are hosting two Admitted Student Open Houses this spring. We strongly encourage newly admitted McKinney students to attend one of these events to learn more about the programs we offer, and meet faculty, students, and alumni. Please RSVP for these events.
Registration for incoming first-year students occurs in July. Because first-year students have a fixed curriculum, you will not choose your own class schedule and the Office of Student Affairs will register you for fall classes. Full-time (day) students will be split equally between two sections (A or B) and registered into the appropriate course sections. Once you have been registered for classes, your schedule will appear in OneStart.
PLEASE NOTE: LARC sections (LAW 520) will be assigned at Orientation (or just prior to Orientation). LARC information may be sent to your IU email address, so make sure your school email account is set up and working properly.
The mandatory new student orientation for incoming first-year students will be held Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24, 2013. More detailed information is available on the 2013 New Student Orientation page.
Books and First Assignments
Most law books can be purchased in new or used condition, and some may be available for rental. The estimated budget for books for 1L students is $950–$1,200.
You can see which books are required for your classes by using the Textbook Search feature on the campus bookstore's website. The bookstore will have updated book lists over the summer. You can also buy your books online through that website or shop online somewhere else for the books. Half.com or The Textbook Alternative are popular choices for finding used books.
LARC I Students: DO NOT buy textbooks until you know which professor’s class you will attend. Not all LARC I professors use the same book. The LARC I sections will be posted on the LARC bulletin board approximately one week prior to Orientation. The bulletin board is located on the north wall of the second floor. First class assignments are usually posted on the third floor bulletin board of Inlow Hall, or through Oncourse approximately two weeks before the first day of class.
