Get to know One.IU
One.IU is where you’ll find all your student information, including financial aid summaries, class schedules, tuition bills, and contact information.
To use One.IU:
- Log in to One.IU.
- Search for and select Student Center.
- Make sure your personal information (date of birth, residency status, etc.) is correct. If any changes need to be made that you can't edit, please email the Office of Enrollment Management at: lawadmit@iu.edu.
REGISTRATION AND FIRST BILL
Registration for incoming first-year students occurs mid-July. Your University ID must be activated for the JD program and there must not be any holds on your account in order for you to be registered for classes. Because first-year students have a fixed curriculum, you will not choose your own class schedule. You will register yourself for a set curriculum upon receiving an email from the Office of Student Affairs. Full-time (day) students will be split equally between two sections (A or B) and part-time students will be assigned to the evening sections. Once you are registered for classes, your schedule will appear in One.IU.
The first bill of the term will be generated the week prior to the start of the semester. Your bill will only reflect your actual tuition charges at that time. If you have not been registered for classes by this time, you will not receive a bill. Bills are generated on the third Thursday of the month and payment is due by the 10th of the following month. To estimate your tuition and fees for the semester, see the Tuition and Fee Estimator on the Bursar's page.
BOOKS AND FIRST ASSIGNMENTS
Most law books can be purchased in new or used condition, and some may be available for rental. The estimated budget for books for 1L students is $950–$1,200.
You can see which books are required for your classes by using the Textbook Search feature on the campus bookstore's website. The bookstore will have updated book lists over the summer. You can also buy your books online through other sources.
Assignments for your first day of class are typically posted online via Canvas. For information about Canvas, see the IU Knowledge Base.
Note: All courses you are currently enrolled in (except LCA) will be listed in Canvas unless your professor decides to use another online forum (e.g. Westlaw – TWEN) to communicate with your class during this semester.
LCA I Students: DO NOT buy textbooks until you know which professor’s class you will attend. To ensure an optimal LCA student/faculty ration\, there may be some movement of students among sections.
Get your Crimsoncard (Student ID card)
Once you’re registered for classes, you can get your University ID card, aka CrimsonCard. You will need to go to the Campus Card Services Office located in the Campus Center at 420 University Boulevard to obtain your card (bring a photo ID). Please go to https://crimsoncard.iu.edu/about/office-locations.html for current office hours.
GET YOUR PARKING PERMIT
You may purchase your parking permit starting in early August if you have been registered for fall classes by that time. Permits can be purchased online from Parking Services.
