Important Dates and Deadlines
- September 1 - Applications accepted for the upcoming Summer 2026 Cohort
- April 1 - Application deadline
Application Decisions
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis by the admission committee starting in September, and applicants will receive a decision as soon as the admissions committee has considered your completed application (approximately 2-3 weeks).
Admissions Committee Considerations
Most admissions decisions are based on a combination of factors, including the quality and strength of each applicant's academic history, grades, worthwhile community and extracurricular activities, employment during and after college, graduate work, and letters of recommendation. The Admissions Committee recognizes that motivation and a willingness to work are also significant factors contributing to the applicant's success in the M.J. program.
M.J. Admission Requirements
To be considered for admittance to the M.J. program, you must submit:
- Have received a baccalaureate or equivalent degree from an approved college or university by the first day of our summer session (except as defined by an established accelerated degree program).
- Submit a completed M.J. Application by April 1st to be considered for Summer 2025.
- Resume or Curriculum vitae with current education and employment history
- Personal statement (up to 800 words) on your purpose for undertaking the M.J. program at Robert H. McKinney School of Law
- Undergraduate and graduate school transcripts from any institution you have ever attended. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for application purposes. Official transcripts are required if you are admitted.
- Two letters of recommendation (up to four accepted) with professional or academic references, preferably one from a current instructor or supervisor. Please arrange to have these completed within 14 days of your application. Additional instructions in the M.J. application.
- Standardized test scores are not required. If you have taken a standardized test (such as LSAT or GRE) within the past 5 years, you are required to submit scores.
Additional Application Materials
We encourage you to include, in writing, any additional relevant information you wish us to consider in making our decision. Examples include:
- Providing an explanation for an UGPA, LSAT, or GRE score that you feel doesn’t properly reflect your academic ability
- Providing a statement attesting to the fact that you were disadvantages because of economic, educational, racial, or cultural circumstances
