Library Services
The library is open 7:30am - 9pm Monday-Friday, 10am - 5pm Saturday and 10am - 6pm Sunday. Reference hours are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. Please note the library is accessible only to IU McKinney students, staff, and faculty on weekends. Hours are posted by the library front doors and displayed digitally at the library entrance.
The library does not purchase textbooks and casebooks because they are updated almost annually. Some faculty may put copies of textbooks on reserve; these are available at the circulation desk for in-library use only on a two-hour basis.
To check items on reserve, select the Reserves tab on IUCAT, then search using your instructor’s name.
Present your Crimson Card and the book you wish to check out to the person at the Circulation Desk. Multi-volume sets of books and journals cannot be checked out.

Law students, faculty, and staff have unlimited online access to LexisNexis Study Aids
LexisNexis Study Aids are only accessible to IU McKinney students, staff, and faculty.
- There’s a link to register on LexisNexis Study Aids on the library’s homepage.
- After you’ve registered, return to the homepage and select ‘explore.’
Please note this database is different from Lexis+
- Go to IUCAT
- Search for the item using IUCAT, and select “Request This” located at the top right of the item record. Be sure to select the correct library for delivery (Ruth Lilly Law Library).
- Once the item is available for pickup, you will receive a notification to your IU email.
- Pick up the item from the Circulation Desk within 3 weeks from the date of notification. If an item is not picked up within 3 weeks the hold will be removed, and the item will be reshelved/ returned to the home library.
Items located at Ruth Lilly Law Library generally become available for pickup within 24 hours (weekends not included).
Items located at other IU libraries will be available for pickup in 4-7 days.
- Use our Interlibrary Loan service to request items that are unavailable through IU’s library system. The service allows users to borrow items from other libraries across the United States.
- This service is only available to IU students, staff, and faculty.

There are water bottle filling stations located on each floor near the library restrooms:
- Please use spill proof containers for all food and beverages.
- Notify the Circulation Desk of any food or beverage spills.
- No food or beverages are permitted in the Archives Room.
No, study carrels cannot be reserved. Personal items should not be left unattended in the library. Any items found in study carrels at library closing will be removed

Yes. The second floor is reserved for quiet study. Other areas of the library are generally quiet, but due to proximity to high-traffic areas there may be increased noise levels. The library has a limited number of noise-cancelling headphones available to check out at the Circulation Desk.
Yes, the library is open to the public Monday-Friday from 9am to 6pm. However, services to the public are limited.
In general, reference librarians and circulation staff can direct public patrons to available print and electronic resources/subscriptions, explain how to use a specific resource, and provide orientation on the structure of legal information.
We DO NOT provide legal advice, give opinions on legal issues, explain or interpret statutes/cases/regulations, perform legal research, assist with filling out legal forms, locate specific lawsuits/statutes/rules/forms and we cannot read legal materials to a patron on the phone.
Materials cannot be checked out to members of the public. Printers are not available for public use. A scanner is available to send pages to email for free.
There are two computers available for public patrons located on the 1st floor. These can only be used to search IUCAT and LexisUni. These resources are also available at the University Library, along with full computer access.
Technology Services
There are 4 computers on the 3rd floor to the right of the stairwell. These computers may only be used by McKinney students, faculty, and staff.
- Use IU Print Mobile. You can access the website by either searching for it on One.iu.edu or google.
- Login with your IU username and passphrase and upload your document to the print queue.
- Once in the queue, go to the nearest printer and swipe your CrimsonCard on the card scanner, and select Print.
Students receive a print allotment of $26 (credits) at the beginning of each semester. This allotment allows you to print approximately 650 single sided black and white pages per semester. An additional $52 allotment can be requested without fee once per semester. To request the additional allotment, email ithelp@iu.edu. Printers are located on all 3 floors of the library near the elevator.
A scanner/printer is available on the first floor near the elevator.
Please note the machine on the right is for student use, and the machine on the left is for public patron scanning only.
Select eduroam from the list of available wireless networks and login with your IU email address and passphrase. You will then be connected to Wi-Fi.
Visit the CrimsonCard site and select ‘Manage Your ID Card.’ Please note you do not need to add money to your CrimsonCard to print. Printing at IU is free for students.
There are several types of phone and laptop chargers available for checkout at the circulation desk. These are 2-hour checkouts and may not leave the library.
