Agenda Overview: Orientation will cover the M.J. program requirements, policies, and registration instructions, as well as an introduction to Case Reading and the M.J. Legal Process Summer course. You will get a chance to meet several key faculty, staff members, fellow colleagues, some current M.J. students, and alumni.
- IU Account: The Create My First IU Computing Account service assists faculty, staff, affiliates, applicants, and admitted, enrolled, and distance students in creating their first computing accounts. The process also includes agreeing to the Use Agreement, selecting a username, creating a passphrase, selecting passphrase questions, and creating an email account. (Note: If you have already been a part of the IU system, select Create Additional Accounts). Follow the instructions provided to setup your university account. Create My First IU Account
- Duo Two-Step Login: IU uses two-factor authentication via CAS (central authentication system) and Duo. As soon as you get your IU account, you'll also want to set up Duo, to be sure you can access Canvas and other IU sites. The easiest way to do this is to download the Duo Mobile app to your smartphone. Go to go.iu.edu/twostep to find out more and your playstore to find the app.
- Technology Requirement: IU McKinney has a computer technology requirement for all law students. This requirement will ensure that all students have the appropriate technology to participate effectively in classes and exams. Keep in mind that as an enrolled IU student, you are entitled to some IU discounts and it is also possible to request a Cost of Attendance Increase for financial aid assistance.
- Textbook Sale Schedule: Textbooks will be available for purchase at the IU Indianpolis Bookstore located at 420 University Boulevard, Suite 155, in the Campus Center.
- First Class Assignments: Assignments for your first day of class are typically posted online via Canvas. For information about Canvas, see https://canvas.iu.edu. (Again, you will need your IU account information, passphrase, and Duo set up. See information above).
- Parking: If you have not already purchased a parking permit, parking is available for a nominal fee at the campus Gateway Garage, located on the corner of Michigan and California Streets (Address is 525 Blackford Street), or at the Natatorium Garage two blocks west of the law school.
- CrimsonCard (Student ID card): The Crimson card is the official photo ID for students. It provides access to a variety of essential services including future printing and future access to the building. It is also an accepted form of payment for many services on and off campus. To learn more about how to upload a photo to get a Crimson card at orientation, please visit https://crimsoncard.iu.edu/.
- Locker Procedures: Any new law student may use a locker while attending our law school. To obtain a locker, place a lock on an empty locker, and complete the Locker Assignment Agreement Form. (A paper copy of this form can be found at in a pocket folder on the bulletin board in the locker room.) When you have completed the Locker Assignment Agreement Form, please turn it in to Assistant Recorder in the Office of Student Affairs. Please note that all lockers MUST be assigned by completing the Locker Assignment Agreement Form. If you fail to complete the form, you will run the risk of losing the locker. Failure to follow these procedures is considered an Honor Code violation.
