Are you interested in a career that combines law and IT? Have you considered a technology position in government, commerce, banking and investment, or nonprofit organizations that involve regulatory work, utility licensing, and communication licensing, and work related to health, environment, and intellectual property? Consider combining your B.S. in Informatics with an M.J. degree!
The field of informatics continues to grow and impact industries where the use, sharing, and protection of data are paramount to the success of an organization. In an industry as complex as the legal profession, having an increased depth and understanding of the law and how the legal system operates provides a level of expertise in the implementation and support of new software and technologies to manage the vast amount of information that flows through an organization.
The M.J./B.S. in Informatics provides students both breadth in informatics fundamentals (BS) and depth in application skill sets with a focus on legal issues (MJ) so you can be better prepared to meet employment challenges. You will develop a frame of mind and a set of tools that enable you to apply fundamental informatics principles to solve real-world problems in advanced application areas centered around legal issues. Legal issues permeate a wide variety of disciplines and roles, and the majority of growth in law-related careers will be increasingly at the intersection of law and technology.
Combine your B.S. in Informatics with an M.J. degree to become a real player at the intersection of law and technology.

Are you a current or aspiring nonprofit professional, nonprofit executive, personal finance officer, foundation program officer, family foundation principal, professional fundraiser, corporate executive, or nonprofit board member?
Consider combining your M.J. with an M.A. in Philanthropic studies! Philanthropic institutions tackle the most difficult, intractable issues in society – poverty, homelessness, illiteracy, and the effects of such chronic illnesses as cancer, etc. – challenges that for-profits tend to avoid or that are too complicated or too controversial for the government to address adequately. Nonprofits provide most of society’s arts and culture opportunities, support education and research, and in many other ways, provide for improvements to society. The scale of this work is significant: philanthropy and the nonprofit sector constitute 10 percent of the US labor force and more than 5 percent of GDP annually.
Nonprofit employment is concentrated in industries with highly complex legal environments: health and education. These two nonprofit subsectors account for two-thirds of nonprofit employees in Indiana.
Combine your M.J. degree with a M.A. in Philanthropic Studies to enhance your career and make a more meaningful and informed difference in what matters to you.

Education encompasses and reaches multiple industries and sectors, including but not limited to K-12 schools, colleges and universities, research institutes and think-tanks, government and lobbying entities, and non-profit organizations. Those involved in education tackle the most difficult, intractable issues in society—racism, systemic oppression, poverty, homelessness, illiteracy, workforce development, public health education, among many others. Federal, state, and local laws and policies impact this work in a variety of ways, such as lobbying, policy- and lawmaking, teaching and leadership, and research.
Legislation and regulation concerning the educational pipeline continues to increase, and legal literacy is becoming more important for those working in fields related to education. Not only should teachers and leaders in schools understand the rights of students and teachers and areas of various liability, but also researchers and lobbyists should understand the policy- and lawmaking process.
This degree requires a previously obtained Master’s degree.
