How do I get involved with a law review?
Although each law review at McKinney has its own eligibility and admissions criteria, to be considered, you must first participate in the Joint Writing Competition held each May. Depending on your class rank, you may choose to complete only one portion of the Joint Writing Competition. All students must complete the Candidate Information Sheet contained in the Joint Writing Competition. All students may complete the additional sections.
The other portions of the Joint Writing Competition require you to edit a short excerpt according to The Bluebook and write a closed memorandum. Writing a closed memorandum means you are not allowed to do any outside research. All of the cases, statutes, and other material you need to write your memorandum are included in the assignment.
All students may apply after completing two semesters, regardless of day/evening or part/full-time status. Since law reviews are generally considered two-year programs, you typically should have at least four semesters left before graduation to be eligible. Each law review has its own policies regarding eligibility. Interested students are strongly encouraged to visit each review's page for the most up-to-date eligibility information.
