Prior to his academic appointment he was Public Prosecutor at the Schweinfurt Prosecution Authority (focusing on Internet and Computer Crime) and Judge at the District Courts of Bad Neustadt a.d. Saale and Schweinfurt (i.a. Legal Guardianship, Criminal Law and Civil Law).
In 2017, Prof. Foerster received an inaugural Distinguished LL.M. Alumni Award from IU McKinney during the 15th anniversary of its LL.M. Program.
His current academic work focuses on Copyright Law and Data Protection, in particular with respect to educational use in a digital academic environment.
