Save the date for a CLE program in honor of Wrongful Conviction Day 2018 on Tuesday, October 2nd.
Registration is now closed. Walk-in CLE will be available.
Wrongful Conviction Day is an international day to raise awareness of the causes and remedies of wrongful conviction and to recognize the tremendous personal, social, and emotional costs of wrongful conviction for innocent people and their families. Wrongful Conviction Day began as an effort of the Innocence Network, an affiliation of organizations dedicated to providing pro bono legal and investigative services to individuals seeking to prove innocence of crimes for which they have been convicted, working to redress the causes of wrongful convictions, and supporting the exonerated after they are freed. This is the fifth annual day. The Wrongful Conviction Clinic at IU McKinney is a founding member of the Innocence Network and will co-host the Indiana event with JustIS 4 JustUS, an exoneree support organization founded by exonerees. Indiana exonerees Krissy Bunch, David Camm, Roosevelt Glenn, and Darryl Pinkins will attend and share their experiences in a panel discussion. David Camm’s Indiana lawyer, Stacy Uliana, will discuss the faulty forensic science, including blood spatter evidence, which was presented in the Camm case. Further, Dr. Mark Perlin, founder of Pittsburgh based Cybergenetics, will present on his groundbreaking probabilistic genotyping technology, which analyzed the relevant DNA mixtures and established the innocence of co-defendants Glenn and Pinkins.
