12:45 P.M. – 1:45 P.M.: Part I: The Immigrant Visa Process and What it takes to become a legal permanent resident
Speaker: Evelyn H. Cruz, Clinical Professor of Law, Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, Arizona State University
Bio: Evelyn H. Cruz is a Clinical Law Professor at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Professor Cruz is the director of the immigration clinic which represents immigrant children in the foster care system. In addition to directing the clinic, Professor Cruz teaches Immigration Law and Asylum. Her research interests include U.S. Immigration Law, Transmigration, Mexican Immigration Law, Migrant Children, Procedural Transparency, and Clinical Legal Theory. Professor Cruz is currently engaged in a multi-year project to establish clinics at law schools in Mexico and Pakistan. Prior to joining the ASU faculty, Professor Cruz was a fellow at Yale Law School where she taught in the clinical program. Professor Cruz holds a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a J.D. from Santa Clara University College of Law.

Speaker: John Shuford, Ph.D., Director, Institute for Hate Studies, Gonzaga University
Bio: John Schuford earned his J.D. and a Ph.D. in Philosophy, both from the University of Oregon. His background includes work in the philosophy of nonviolence and conflict resolution, and his research falls in the applied areas of ethics, legal theory, and social/political philosophy. His immigration research has taken him to explored state, local, and other “regional” roles in immigration policy.

3:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.: Part III: A conversation about refugees and domestic violence protection
Speaker: Linda Kelly, M. Dale Palmer Professor of Law
Bio: Linda Kelly Hill is the M. Dale Palmer Professor of Law at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She joined the faculty in 2002, following seven years as a faculty member at St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida. She has written extensively on issues surrounding immigration law as well as domestic violence and the treatment of domestic violence in immigration law. She worked as a staff attorney for the Haitian Refugee Center in Miami from 1992-1995. She has also served as a staff attorney for the Family Legal Services and Domestic Violence Unit of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit in and for Broward County, Florida.
