Bio
Miriam Murphy is the Director of the Ruth Lilly Law Library. She has taught legal research for thirty-seven years and currently teaches legal research courses at all levels from the first-year level through the advanced legal research level. She teaches the Responsible Lawyering course. She has taught courses in the Luddy School of Informatics, Department of Library and Information Science.
She is active in numerous national professional committees including the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) State of the Profession Committee and the Econominc Status of Law Librarians Committee. She has served multiple times as a Site Team member for the American Bar Association, Section on Legat Education. She has made numerous conference presentations and held leadership positions in several professional law library associations.
She has served as the IU Indianapolis campus representative for the IU Policy Task Force, the Ad Hoc Committee on Faculty Engagement, the Honorary Degrees Committee and the George Pinnell Award Committee. She has been particularly active at the campus level serving multiple terms on the IU Indianapolis Faculty Council Executive Committee and as Chair of the IU Indianapolis Faculty Council Campus Planning Committee. She has been a member of an additional sixteen different campus committees and task forces including multiple elected terms on the IU Indianapolis Campus Promotion & Tenure Committee. Her scholarship includes a book on moving an academic law library, two book chapters, and multiple articles and several research guides.
Prior to her appointment as library director, she served fourteen years as Associate Director and before that she spent thirteen years as Head of Public Services at the Professional Center Library, Wake Forest University School of Law. She has also held library positions at the Fagre Drinker law firm and the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University.
