The Wrongful Conviction Clinic is administered by the Office of the Public Defender of Indiana, located in downtown Indianapolis. Under the supervision of two deputy Public Defenders, students will represent indigent, incarcerated clients seeking to overturn wrongful criminal convictions. Activities will vary by case but will often include meeting with clients at penal facilities, reviewing trial and appellate transcripts, conducting factual investigation (interviewing witnesses, etc.) and legal research, and appearing before Indiana trial and appellate courts. Students will also learn the legal bases and procedures by which wrongful convictions can be challenged, such as faulty forensic evidence and ineffective assistance of counsel.
