07/03/2014
MaryEllen Bishop, ’82, is the first woman to serve as the interim chair of the Indiana University Board of Trustees. Re-elected to a second three-year term as a trustee in 2013, Bishop resumes her position on the board as vice chair, with the board's election of Randall Tobias to a one-year term as chair. Bishop served as interim chair when former chair Tom Reilly resigned.
Bishop, of Carmel, is a partner in the firm Cohen Garelick & Glazier. In addition to IU McKinney, she also is a graduate of the IU Kelley School of Business.
IU has a nine-member board, with six members appointed by the state's governor. IU alumni select the other three members, with one alumni board seat coming open each year. On June 30, IU alumni re-elected Patrick A. Shoulders, ’78, of Evansville. He was initially appointed an IU trustee in 2002.
Governor Mike Pence, ’86, appointed Andrew Mohr and Michael Mirro to the board on July 2. The new trustees will be officially sworn in at the next meeting, scheduled for August 7 and 8 on the IU Bloomington campus.
