Amber Comer Earns Fellow Status from American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Amber R. Comer, J.D. ’11, recently earned the designation of Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (FAAHPM). This is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member. The academy is the professional organization for physicians specializing in hospice and palliative medicine, nurses, and other healthcare providers. Dr. Comer holds a PhD from the Indiana University Fairbanks School of Public Health with a minor in Bioethics.

Dennis Bland, J.D. ’92, the longtime president of the Center for Leadership Development, received the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Michael A. Carroll Award to honor his work toward transforming the lives of Black youth in Indianapolis. Bland spent 13 years volunteering with the organization before joining it as its president. He has served there for 24 years.

The head of Indiana’s Department of Environmental Management said the Clean Air Act needs to be updated because it limits the ability of new investment to come to Indiana. The Environmental Protection Agency under former President Joe Biden lowered the amount of soot allowed from 12 micrograms per cubic meter to 9 micrograms. The state official also called the standard “legally and scientifically dubious.” In a story for Indiana Public Media, which also appeared on WFYI, Visiting Professor and Distinguished Scholar Janet McCabe discussed the clean air standards.

Professor Quigley wrote an op-ed column for the Indianapolis Star on how the state should consider rent controls in an effort to alleviate the housing crisis. A family member was starting a business and needed help registering a trademark and Morgan took care of it. From that interaction, Morgan began a new business, and soon was working on his own. The Ninth Global Conference on Slavery Past, Present and Future, hosted by Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, took place in on the Vrije’s Amsterdam campus on June 26 and 27, 2025. The 32 participants and scholars hailed from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Ghana, India, Iran, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
