Vice Dean Huffman Lectures at American University of Central Asia
10/02/2025
IU McKinney Vice Dean Max Huffman was invited to lecture at the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He was invited to visit by AUCA Professor Kamila Mateeva, LL.M. ’05, who is head of the university’s law department.
IU McKinney has a partnership with AUCA that allows for faculty cross-lecturing and student dual degrees. Professor Frank Emmert, the John S. Grimes Professor of law and director of the Center for International and Comparative Law at IU McKinney, was instrumental in establishing the partnership. Huffman said of the work with AUCA, “this collaboration is one of the bright lights in our international programs, with our faculty providing courses at AUCA and AUCA students enrolling at McKinney as part of an innovative and rigorous dual-degree program. The students I taught in Bishkek this September are incredibly strong and will be excellent lawyers. I am hopeful one or more will join us for the LL.M. degree in Indianapolis.”
“As an alumna of IU McKinney, I know of the quality of the LL.M. program and the career opportunities it provides to its graduates,” said Dr. Mateeva. “It was for this reason that I supported the efforts to develop a dual-degree collaboration between our law schools, and in my current role as head of the law department at AUCA am happy to have IU McKinney faculty, including Vice Dean Huffman as well as Professor Frank Emmert, lecturing at AUCA.”
Vice Dean Huffman is a Samuel R. Rosen Professor of Law at IU McKinney. He led the successful launch of the law school’s hybrid part-time J.D. program during the 2023-2024 academic year. He also has been instrumental in creating and strengthening the partnerships the law school has with University Toulouse-1 Capitole and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, and the IU schools of Public Health, and Tourism and Sports Management. These partnerships expand the law school’s offerings and increase its global presence.
