Professors Schumm and Sullivan Reflect on Student Oath, Rule of Law
09/02/2025
IU McKinney Professors Joel Schumm and Frank Sullivan wrote a column about the Oath of Professionalism that all 280 of the law school’s new juris doctor students took at the beginning of the academic year. The oath also is a pledge to the rule of law, they wrote.
“It is our hope and expectation that our students, armed with the full range of multiple and widely varying perspectives on how the rule of law can and should be achieved, will take their place as active and engaged members of the bar,” the professors wrote. (subscription required)
Professor Schumm is the Carl M. Gray Professor of Law at IU McKinney. Professor Sullivan is professor of practice and an Indiana University Bicentennial Professor at the law school.
