McKinney Law SJD Student Participates in Pro Bono Project
09/15/2014
Gug-Hyeon Cho, an SJD candidate at McKinney Law, has been providing pro bono service to clients of the Indiana District 10 Pro Bono Project, which serves Clay, Greene, Hendricks, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, Owen and Putnam Counties in Indiana. Each Friday, the Pro Bono Project offers a walk-in clinic at the Monroe County Justice Building in Bloomington. Called “Counsel in the Court,” the program provides an opportunity for clients to speak with volunteers free of charge.
Under supervising attorney, Adian Polit, Cho has contributed more than 100 hours at the clinic. “Doing volunteer work as part of pro bono services gave me great opportunities to know how to deal with the types of problems that lawyers handle,” he said. “No words can explain how important it is to serve those who need legal advice,” he added.
Cho received an LL.M. from IU Maurer School of Law, and a Ph.D. from Korea University. He was a governmental official, senior researcher, and a member of a presidential committee in Korea. He was also a postdoctoral fellow at Keio University in Japan, a visiting scholar at Stanford University and a moot court competition judge at IU Maurer.
