Distinguished Visitors from Vietnam Highlight Law Review Symposium

Partnering with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences Institute of State and Law, the Indiana Law Review at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney hosted its annual symposium on September 23. Titled “Liability, Rights and Remedies in Toxic Torts: Local, National and International Responses in the Age of Globalization” the event at Inlow Hall marked the first time that a U.S. law school has partnered with the Academy for an event.

The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences is the foremost government agency within Vietnam that undertakes studies of fundamental issues in the fields of social sciences, providing scientific evidence for the government of Vietnam in developing guidelines, strategies, plans, and policies to serve Vietnam’s dynamic development. The academy also provides post-graduate education and training in the social sciences, which includes law.
Visitors from the Academy took part in the event’s first panel discussion, titled: “Toxic Torts Liability.” Discussants were IU McKinney Dean Andrew Klein; Professor Dr. Nguyễn Như Phát, Director, Institute of State and Law, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Dr. Nguyen Bich Thao, Vietnam National University Faculty of Law, Interpreter; Professor Steven C. Gold of Rutgers School of Law-Newark; and Professor Michael D. Green of Wake Forrest University School of Law.
