IU McKinney, Bose McKinney & Evans, Establish Diversity Fellowship Program
10/20/2014
Bose McKinney & Evans has established the Diversity Fellowship for first-year law students from historically underrepresented backgrounds attending the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
The aim of the program is to promote greater diversity in the legal profession. The student chosen for the fellowship will be awarded up to $10,000 during the course of law school, up to two paid summer internships at the firm, and consideration for employment at the firm upon graduation. A $5,000 award will be paid to the fellow upon being selected, and a second $5,000 award will be paid after review of the fellow’s summer internship work. The fellow will be assigned a mentor and will participate in networking sessions during the summer internships.
Candidates must be committed to the meaningful support of increasing diversity and inclusion efforts in the legal profession, and be enrolled at IU McKinney as a J.D. student with an anticipated graduation date in 2017. Applicants also must have a 3.0 grade point average and maintain that throughout their law school career. Applications are due February 2, 2015. Interested students can learn more at the law firm’s website.
"This initiative is another great opportunity for students to obtain valuable experience with a reputable law firm while helping to defray the cost of legal education," said Chasity Thompson, assistant dean of the law school's Office of Professional Development. "Also, we appreciate that the law firm is investing in the selected student by providing ongoing mentorship throughout the student’s law school experience."
The law school was named the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in December 2011, in honor of Robert H. McKinney’s exceedingly generous gift to the law school. He is a founding partner of Bose McKinney & Evans.
