Susan Brooks, '85, Named Government Leader of the Year by Indiana Chamber of Commerce
11/10/2014
Congresswoman Susan Brooks was honored by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce November 6 with its “Government Leader of the Year” award. Brooks’ previous experience as a lawyer, deputy mayor, U.S. Attorney, and at Ivy Tech Community College, equipped her for the role she now plays in the United States House of Representatives, said the chamber in announcing the honor.
The chamber noted that in spite of the fact that she was new to Congress, she achieved placement on the Committee on Education and the Workforce, an assignment she asked for. In addition, she was assigned to the Committee on Homeland Security, as well as the Ethics Committee. Brooks also was the only freshman legislator who was asked to serve on the House Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi. The chamber also noted that in a Congress that has a reputation for gridlock, Brooks was able to get two pieces of legislation passed.
