IU McKinney, Franklin College Join Forces to Create Scholar Program
11/20/2014
The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and Franklin College have entered into a partnership to create the “Franklin College Law Scholar” program. The first two students from the college will be chosen and begin their legal educations at McKinney Law in Fall 2015.
Each year, Franklin will nominate two students or alumni for admission to IU McKinney, following the college’s nomination procedures.
“Our new agreement with Franklin College provides fellows the ability to differentiate their law school education both through experiential learning and through an opportunity to work under a faculty member in their chosen area of study,” said IU McKinney Dean Andrew Klein. “We’re proud of all the Franklin grads who are our alumni, and look forward to the future achievements of our new Franklin College Law Scholars.”
“We are delighted to be partnering with the McKinney School of Law; the Franklin College Law Scholar program offers our students and alumni a unique opportunity, not only for financial support in law school but also for experiences that will give them a distinct advantage in a competitive environment for law graduates,” said Dr. David G. Brailow, Franklin College Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College. (Franklin College students visit IU McKinney and Professor Fran Quigley.)
Applicants must be nominated by Franklin, and the college’s representatives will review academic performance, letters of recommendations, volunteer and leadership experience, and areas of interest in the legal profession. Scholars will receive a minimum of a half-tuition scholarship, will be designated a program fellow in the student’s chosen area of study with a chance to meet with faculty during the first semester for help in determining a course of study should the student wish to seek that kind of guidance, paid employment as a research assistant after completing 30 hours of law school, and guaranteed experiential learning opportunities. Nomination deadline is February 1, 2015.
