IU McKinney Alum Discusses Practice with Environmental Law Society

Kathleen G. Lucas,’78, discussed her career and work in environmental law during the Environmental Law Society speaker series on November 20 at IU McKinney. Lucas is a partner in the Environmental Law and Administrative Law groups of Bose McKinney & Evans in Indianapolis and has extensive experience as an attorney for the state and in private practice.
The ELS Speaker Series offers an opportunity to learn more about the practice of law in a variety of Environmental and Natural Resources fields as well as an opportunity to meet local lawyers practicing in the field.
Lucas was formerly Director of Legal Affairs for the Indiana State Department of Health, where she assisted with the transfer of programs to the newly created Indiana Department of Environmental Management in the mid-1980s. Prior to that, she served as a Deputy Attorney General representing numerous state agencies. She has participated in the recodification and implementation of environmental, health and administrative laws in Indiana since 1985. She has also served as an expert witness and advisor in state and federal court cases regarding the history of Indiana environmental law, Indiana administrative law procedures, and related issues. Lucas also served as Trustee for the Evansville Greenway and Remediation Trust, which was created by Order of the United States District Court, Southern District of Indiana, Evansville Division. The Trust was awarded the 2011 National Environmental Excellence Award for Environmental Stewardship.
The Program in Environmental, Energy & Natural Resources Law at IU McKinney offers the opportunity to study environmental, energy and natural resources law through a program that has a national and an international perspective, while retaining a strong regional core.
