Judge Shaheed, '84, Retiring at Year's End
12/10/2014
Judge David Shaheed, ’84, who has been on the bench in Marion County for 20 years, will retire at the end of 2014.
Known for his involvement in the community, in the bar, and at IU McKinney, Shaheed has served as a magistrate in Marion County as well as a judge. He was featured in an article in the December 3 issue of the Indiana Lawyer along with other jurists who are leaving the bench at year’s end.
“I have really, thoroughly enjoyed the job. It’s been rewarding to be involved in the law in this kind of position,” Shaheed told the newspaper.
Shaheed is also stepping down as chairman and president of the Heartland Pro Bono Council. In that capacity, he has worked with IU McKinney students who have obtained practical legal experience by serving as part of the law school’s Pro Bono Program.
Judge Shaheed is a true champion and supporter of the law school’s Pro Bono Program,” said LaWanda Ward, ’03, director of the program. “As the Heartland Pro Bono Council chair, he ensured students had the opportunity to work with volunteer attorneys who had taken pro bono cases. Judge Shaheed recognized the value in having students gain legal experience while making a difference in Hoosier lives.”
