IU McKinney Partners with ISBA and ILAS to Create Fellowship
12/18/2014
The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law has partnered with the Indiana State Bar Association’s Professional Legal Education Admission and Development Section, and the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society to create a fellowship aimed at helping recent alumni establish a strong legal practice.
The 2015 IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law Solo Practice Fellow will receive continuing legal education training from the law school and the ISBA, a complimentary membership to the state bar, access to free office space at ILAS for the 2015 calendar year, the opportunity to attend the Indiana Solo/Small Firm Conference, and an assigned mentor, among other perks.
The fellow will be responsible for working up to 20 hours per week for ILAS from January through September 2015. The work requirement will be 15 hours for October, 10 hours for November, and no hours in December except for work needed to transition cases to ILAS attorneys. He or she also will be available to talk with IU McKinney students who may be interested in starting their own practices after graduation.
The goal of the program is to assist the fellow through advice, product exposure and limited discounts on items necessary to the practice of law, and to help the solo practitioner better position him/herself to set up and maintain a successful legal practice. There will be no compensation for this experience.
Ideal candidates will be recent IU McKinney graduates or judicial clerks. Applicants must be licensed to practice in Indiana.
