IU McKinney LL.M. Student Meets Egyptian President
01/13/2015
Germaine Hassan Abououf, an LL.M. student at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, had the opportunity to take part in a program in her home country, Egypt, over Winter break.
The program is organized for youth who live abroad by the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs for Egypt. The 10-day trip took the students to ancient Egyptian monuments in Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan. In addition, there were gatherings with the Minister of Youth, the Minister of Manpower and Immigration, and the Governor of Luxor.
Out of the group of 150 youths, Abououf was one of 20 selected for a meeting with Egypt’s president, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. The event took place over two hours on December 30.
“The president wanted to meet the Egyptian youth who live abroad and listen to their requests, hopes, concerns, what support from Egypt do they need where they live and what are they looking forward to see in Egypt,” Abououf said. “We were on television and in the newspapers. I even did a live interview on television later. It was a great experience that I will never forget.”
