IU McKinney Cane Award Honorees Announced

The IU McKinney Cane Awards for outstanding professors and administration member were announced at the school’s Barrister’s Ball on March 7. All of the awards are selected by McKinney law students.
The Black Cane Award for most outstanding professor was given to Professor Frank Sullivan, Jr. Sullivan joined the faculty as professor of practice in Fall 2012 after serving 19 years as a justice of the Indiana Supreme Court. He is a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College, a magna cum laude graduate of IU Maurer School of Law, and received an LL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
The Red Cane Award for most outstanding professor who has been with the law school for less than three years was presented to Professor Yvonne Dutton. Dutton joined the faculty in Fall 2012, and is a Dean’s Fellow and a Grimes Fellow. She graduated from Columbia Law School, where she served on the Columbia Law Review and was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar throughout her law school career. She completed her undergraduate work at Columbia University. Dutton received a master of arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a doctorate from there as well.
The White Cane Award for the most outstanding administrative staff member was presented to Dean Andrew R. Klein, who also is the Paul E. Beam Professor of Law. Dean Klein joined the faculty in 2000, and has been dean since Summer 2013. He received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin, and received his J.D. with distinction from Emory University School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the Emory Law Journal. Dean Klein served as chief of staff to the Office of the Chancellor and Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at IUPUI.
