03/12/2015
Students of the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law selected students to speak on their behalf during commencement, and the professors who will perform the hooding ceremony for graduates of the juris doctor, master of laws, doctor of juridical science, and master of jurisprudence programs.
The full-time juris doctor (J.D.) student chosen to speak during commencement is Lucy Frick. Frick served as president of the Lambda Law Society, Chair of the Student Bar Association’s Philanthropy Committee, and a tutor for the Dean’s Tutorial Society. She completed an externship with the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, took part in the Health and Human Rights Clinic, and had a judicial externship with Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson, '83.
The part-time J.D. student who will address her fellow classmates is Tarah Baldwin. She has been part of the award-winning IU-Student Outreach Clinic, Indiana Legal Services’ Senior Law Project, the Indiana House of Representatives and the Marion County Public Defenders Agency. She has interned for several Indianapolis law firms and worked as a paralegal. Through it all, Baldwin has impressed those around her. She earned the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award for her more than 500 hours of pro bono service to people in the community.
Fernanda De Oliveira Beraldi Morais will address the commencement audience on behalf of the law school’s master of laws (LL.M.) graduates. Beraldi has quickly become part of the network in the legal community in Indianapolis. She had a clerkship for the Attorney General’s Office in the Consumer Division during the Fall 2014 semester, and is now clerking for Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David, ’82, as well as participating in an externship at Eli Lilly and Company during the Spring 2015 semester.
Professors chosen to preside over the hooding ceremony for J.D. students are Professors Frank Sullivan, Mike Pitts, Margaret Tarkington, and Tom Wilson. Professors Sullivan and Wilson will also preside over the LL.M. hooding ceremony. Professor Frank Emmert will hood the law school’s doctor of juridical science graduate, and Professor Wilson will hood IU McKinney’s first master of jurisprudence graduate.
IU McKinney’s commencement will begin at 2 p.m. May 9 in the Sagamore Ballroom at the Indiana Convention Center. Anne Slaughter Andrew, ’83, former United States Ambassador to Costa Rica, and founder and chairman of TerViva in Oakland, California, will deliver the commencement address.
