Professor Katz Appears on Indianapolis Television News Concerning RFRA
04/01/2015
Professor Robert Katz spoke with an Indianapolis television news reporter on March 31 concerning the recently passed Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
Professor Katz testified to the Indiana House Judiciary Committee prior to RFRA’s passage that the state didn’t need the law, as there was no indication that religious people that they were being persecuted, or that they were leaving the state because of this. But now that RFRA is Indiana law, there has been an outcry against the measure from businesses, conventions and other states who refuse to do business in or with Indiana because they believe it supports discrimination.
“I think religious people have nothing to fear from revoking it and if they share the concern, as I'm sure they do, about the horrible image that Indiana is projecting to the rest of the country, they should support revoking it, too, and saying, 'You know what, this was a mistake,’” Professor Katz says in the interview.
Professor Katz teaches courses on nonprofit law, the First Amendment, law and religion, and the law of healthcare organizations.
