Two IU McKinney Alumni to Participate in Debate Organized by UNIVATES

Angelique Devaux, LL.M. ’12, and Mohamed Arafa, S.J.D. ’13, have been invited to take part in an international and contemporary law debate organized by UNIVATES, Bairro Univeritario in Brazil.
Professor Arafa spoke about political Islam, modernity, terrorism, and the Arab Spring on April 27. Arafa is an assistant professor of criminal law and criminal justice at Alexandria University Faculty of Law in Egypt. He taught a course in Islamic law as an adjunct professor at IU McKinney during the Spring 2015 semester. He will teach the online course “Comparative Middle Eastern Legal and Political Studies” during July and August 2015.
Devaux will speak about the challenge of balancing freedom of speech and freedom of religion in France in the wake of the attack on Charlie Hebdo. That talk is scheduled for August 31.
