Professor Katz Talks about Expanding LGBT Rights through Human Rights Ordinances
04/29/2015
An Indianapolis Star news story published April 28 quotes Professor Robert Katz about the move taken by Indiana cities to restrict discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity through local ordinances. Whitestown and Martinsville are among the localities that ban such discrimination through ordinances or executive order.
“Nobody’s really sure how these are supposed to work, with the tension between the right to be free from discrimination and the religious sensibilities of store owners,” Professor Katz said in the news story. “And so it creates sort of a laboratory of different cities and counties trying to calibrate that balance.”
Professor Katz teaches courses on nonprofit law, the First Amendment, law and religion, and the law of healthcare organizations.
