Dean Klein Comments on Westfield High School Stage Collapse Tort Claim Potential in Metro Newspaper
05/20/2015
IU McKinney Dean Andrew Klein talked about the potential for tort claims following a stage that collapsed while students were performing on it.
The stage in Westfield High School’s auditorium collapsed during a performance April 23. In all, 17 students were injured, and none of the injuries were life threatening, though some were serious. The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office has said they will not press charges because they could find no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
The school district and the part-time school employee who modified the stage could face tort claims from the injured students, Dean Klein said in a story published May 20 in the Indianapolis Star.
Dean Klein is the Paul E. Beam Professor of Law and teaches torts, environmental and toxic torts, hazardous waste regulation, and federal jurisdiction.
