IU McKinney Student Receives Reserve Commission through Navy's Direct Commission Intelligence Officer Program
05/22/2015
IU McKinney 2L Nasha Baughman received a Reserve Commission through the Navy’s Direct Commission Intelligence Officer program. The formal commissioning ceremony was held in the Shrine Room of the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis on May 20.
Former Indiana Governor Joe Kernan administered the oath. Governor Kernan was one of Baughman’s professors when she was an undergraduate at the University of Notre Dame. He is a former Navy officer and prisoner of war.
“My military service thus far has reinforced two things,” Baughman said. “The first, that success is connected with action. Second, that persistence and determination by risking failure develops an effective leader. I look forward to integrating what I have learned as an enlisted sailor to develop others and respond to the challenges of the Navy’s Officer Corps.”
