Professor Arafa, S.J.D., '13, Presents in Spain, Publishes on Trials of Egyptian Leaders

Professor Mohamed Arafa, S.J.D., ’13, presented the talk titled “Egyptian Constitution between Theory and Practice: Have Lots, Have Not’s” at the Contemporary Issues of Criminal Justice Systems Conference in Onati, Spain on May 22. During the presentation, Arafa discussed the death penalty in the Egyptian criminal justice system.
Arafa’s article titled “The Unexpected Trials of Egyptian Leaders: Is it a Question of Law or Politics?” will be published in June by U.S. China Law Review. The article examines the facets of leadership during the rule of Egypt’s authoritarian technical bureaucrats, Hosni Mubarak and Mohammad Morsi.
Arafa is an assistant professor of criminal law and criminal justice at Alexandria University Faculty of Law in Egypt. He taught a course in Islamic law as an adjunct professor at IU McKinney during the Spring 2015 semester. He will teach the online course “Comparative Middle Eastern Legal and Political Studies” during July and August 2015.
