Professor Arafa, S.J.D. '13, to Teach in Croatia, Publishes on Care of the Elderly in the Arab and Islamic World

Professor Mohamed Arafa, S.J.D. ’13, will teach for 12 days in Croatia at the University of Groningen in the Summer School on Transnational Justice and the Politics of Memory. During the school, Arafa said he will discuss “transnational justice and criminal accountability within the Arab Spring transition and the truth commission and reconciliation in various Arabian countries after the fall of autocratic regimes in the Middle East.
In addition, Professor Arafa published a book chapter titled “What’s new in the residential care of the elderly in the Arab and Islamic world? The case of Egypt.” It is part of a book titled Towards Human Rights in Residential Care for Older Persons and will be published by Routledge. The chapter examines what Islamic and Arab positive laws offer for the needs of the older population.
Arafa is an assistant professor of criminal law and criminal justice at Alexandria University Faculty of Law in Egypt. He taught a course in Islamic law as an adjunct professor at IU McKinney during the Spring 2015 semester. He will teach the online course “Comparative Middle Eastern Legal and Political Studies” during July and August 2015.
