06/29/2015
The Indiana Legal Education Conclave, organized and presented by the Indiana State Bar Association, was held at IU McKinney June 26 and 27.
Speakers from across the state and nation met at the law school to discuss the challenges faced by the legal profession and law schools specifically. Deans from all five law schools in Indiana took part in the event.
Visiting Professor Randall T. Shepard of IU McKinney kicked off the event June 26 with a talk titled “What the Law School Storm Means for the Profession.” Dean Andrew Klein of IU McKinney and Professor William Henderson of IU Maurer began the day on June 27 with a talk titled “Adapting to Changing Times: Legal Profession and Education.”
Breakout sessions throughout the day on June 27 covered topics like the unauthorized practice of law, rural access to justice, wellness, experiential learning, diversity, and aging.
Justice Mark Massa, ’89, closed the event with a call to action.
The Indiana Legal Education Conclave is presented every three to five years, bringing together the practicing bar, judiciary, and legal educators to discuss the transition of law students to lawyers and how these groups can assist with that process.
