Andy Romey, '15, Attends Midwest Regional Bankruptcy Seminar as Distinguished Student
09/01/2015
Andy Romey, ‘15, was invited to attend the Midwest Regional Bankruptcy Seminar (MRBS) as a Distinguished Law Student. The event features two days of continuing legal education presented by panels of judges, bankruptcy trustees, and practitioners from around the country. Romey’s selection as one of four “Distinguished Law Students” meant his expenses were paid for attending the event, which was held in Cincinnati August 26 and 27.
Romey, who graduated from IU McKinney in May 2015, worked for Hon. James M. Carr, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Indiana, during the Spring semester. He now plans to work as a judge advocate officer ("JAG officer") in the U.S. Air Force.
“Andy Romey was a top student in our part-time program who showed substantial interest in and aptitude for commercial law and bankruptcy,” said Professor Max Huffman, Director of the Corporate and Commercial Law Graduate Certificate Program. “In the course of his studies he earned the Corporate and Commercial Law Graduate Certificate, published his paper on the failings of the federal Home Affordable Modification Program, and served as our second extern to U.S. Bankruptcy Judge James Carr. We are proud to have Andy represent the Corporate and Commercial Law program as the third consecutive recipient of the Distinguished Law Student award at the Midwest Regional Bankruptcy Seminar in Cincinnati.”
"The MRBS seminar was a great experience,” said Romey. “I was able to build on the things I learned in my bankruptcy class with Professor Huffman and in my externship with Judge Carr. The things I learned at the seminar will serve me well in my career as a JAG officer, providing legal advice to airmen on base."
